We've released a new launcher version, 1021473, that keeps track of last build downloaded per server so that on startup, it doesn't have scan all files in the index to determine if anything needs to be downloaded. This should especially help with Wine versions.
We've also updated the Wine version used by default. This should address issues some players have had with starting up Wine, especially on older OS X versions, no longer falling back to XQuartz.
If you haven't tried EVE under Wine yet, I encourage you to do so. To enable it, go to Preferences... in the menu bar for the launcher, select Wine for the wrapper and restart the launcher. See https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6380823#post6380823 for more information.
Note that settings are not automatically migrated over - I'm still working on that bit.
Please tell us about any issues you have with running under Wine - we don't fix issues we don't know about! Of course, positive feedback is always appreciated as well, keeps us motivated :)

Haru'kai Vidaraltyr wrote:The WINE set-up has been excellent so far, thank you. Just a note: today, after logging on after downtime, I have experienced a very odd graphical glitch. When travelling through a gate, the screen is taken over by a full-screen advert for Citadels and Project Discovery. This locks the screen, with no inputs recognised, not even ESC. The first couple of times it went away after a minute or so. I rebooted, but the next jump triggered the same. The third time after reboot, the adverts continued into a Gurista event ad, and I had to terminate with Force Quit. In addition, after the first hijack, all my UI windows (overview, d-scan etc) went to a black, opaque background and no transparency. Unpinning them brought back the usual colour, but pinning them caused them to go back to black background after a few moments. I run the client in WINE on a recent 5k iMac. Hope this is useful. (May need to download a Gal-Net Ad-Blocker ) We're investigating this issue, it is not limited to Wine. Logs would be useful, if you get this to happen with LogLite running. Please file a bug report and attach the saved log from LogLite.
This may be happening when the client runs low on video memory, so running at a lower resolution may help, or lowering graphics settings, particularly for post processing.

Trevor Dalech wrote:As of today, the WINE wrapper stopped working for me. It used to first launch Xquartz, and then start EVE clients inside of that. Now it doesn't launch Xquartz, and nothing happens on clicking the play button. Activity monitor shows a wine server and 4 wine processes starting up, and then closing after a minute or two (after which the 'play' button in the launcher reverts from its 'stop' icon back to its 'play' icon.)
Anyone else having troubles? I've seen reports of issues on OS X 10.9 - what version are you on?
The previous build of Wine is still available, try selecting the 1.8.1-test version rather than latest.

Trevor Dalech wrote:I'm using OSX 10.9 yes. Using the 1.8.1 WINE version appears to work. Well, there you go. Now you know how you can make my life easier, don't you?
I'll keep at it, though, don't worry, I won't force you to upgrade. This thing can run on 10.9, just need to get the build configuration right.

I need some brave souls to try a new Wine version, especially if you've had problems with any of the previous versions.
In Preferences, Wine options, select Use dev versions and select version wine-1.9.6-275-g1c97459-test. Restart the launcher, let it download the Wine version and see if it starts up. Please report back, either here in the forums or send me logs in EVE mail if it still doesn't work for you.
I'm still struggling with finding a build configuration that works for everybody so your help in testing this is highly appreciated!

OK, version wine-1.9.6-275-g1c97459-test works on all machines I have access to, and has been confirmed by a few people to work where the previous one didn't.
I've made this version the default - now we just need to get more people on board!
I'll post an update to the launcher itself today or tomorrow that has settings migration from Cider to Wine.

Neutrino Whisper wrote:Ok so at the risk of sounding irritatingly stupid I tried to follow the instructions to turn on the WINE wrapper in the eve client. Short answer : There is NO such option available in the preferences section of my EVE client. I am running client at version : 2.2.999545. I see no option to update the client, I assume that the client will auto download its updates. Any help guys ? Neutrino You are running the old launcher - download the new one from http://secure.eveonline.com/download, install it (it will reuse your shared cache) and migrate your settings over.

Arthur Aihaken wrote:I decided to be bold and venture out with Wine again... It literally crashed within 2-3 minutes of the session, and when I returned to the launcher it was downloading about 600-700 Wine files (there was no indication prior that anything was amiss). A few observations: GÇó Graphical anomalies (pixelation) with engine exhausts are not present in Wine with a high shader setting GÇó Graphical anomalies (pixelation) with gate or other cloaks are still present in Wine with a high shader setting
When I attempted to launch a new session, the Overview had completely disappeared and the number of red errors spooled past 18,000 before I force quit it. I was also getting a faint split line down the center of the screen with one half slightly darker than the other. GÇó "err:d3d:resource_init Out of adapter memory"
Third time's the charm... right? Nope. Warping to an asteroid belt I experienced intermittent flashes between the normal nebula and a completely white background. When I tried to access the menu the screen darkened but it wasn't present. The number of red errors spiralled past 389 with this single gem: GÇó Tr2Sprite2dScene::EndCapture failed (-2005532292) to create vertex buffer for 6624 vertices (512 KiB)
On the plus side, the asteroid scenes (when not flashing white) have never been prettier. I don't think I was ever completely getting the effects from Asteroid Environments and Light Rays. What the heck, might as well go for broke and enable HRD. Looks absolutely fantastic - just as long as you don't mind the lack of clipping which renders the asteroids, environment and sun over your ship.
When it's not crashing EVE really does look noticeably better under Wine. Fingers crossed... What Wine version do you have selected? Look in Preferences for the launcher - make sure you leave 'Use dev versions' unchecked, and select latest.

Arthur Aihaken wrote:CCP Snorlax, is there a way to purge the existing Wine setup and redownload it again? I'm not sure that would make any difference at this point, but I'm trying to rule everything out. Thanks. Open the shared cache folder (View menu, Reveal in Finder, Shared Cache) and delete the wine and wineenv folders. Note that if you delete the wineenv folder you will lose all settings. If you want to maintain client settings you can delete everything from within wineenv except drive_c/users.
Thank you for your diligence in testing this - your feedback is highly appreciated and helps me greatly in improving the Wine support.

Thank you for your diligence in testing this - your feedback is highly appreciated and helps me greatly in improving the Wine support. I will give this a try and resume testing... Out of curiosity, in the SharedCache folder there are several files and folders. Can any of these be deleted? (assuming some are just archived/out-of-date?) cider_010474.tgz (Nov 4/2015) cider_010805.tgz (Nov 26/2015) cider_011059.tgz (Mar 18/2016) cider-EveOnlinePremium-iso--nodata-skel (Mar 9/2016) cider-EveOnlinePremium-iso-010474-nodata-skel (Dec 7/2015) cider-EveOnlinePremium-iso-010805-nodata-skel (Nov 3/2015) cider-EveOnlinePremium-iso-011059-nodata-skel (Mar 17/2016) Probably, yes, I'll verify when I'm in the office after the weekend.

Arthur Aihaken wrote:CCP Snorlax - just wanted to say thanks for all your efforts (they're greatly appreciated). After running for well over an hour without so much as a hitch - consider me officially converted and drinking the Wine! Awesome - apologies for the extra pain you've experienced from being an early adopter. I guess I need to ensure that updating Wine versions doesn't leave any crap behind that interferes with running properly.

Alicia Dnari wrote:I tried Wine. It crashed even before the client started up. Twice. So I went back to cider. :-( Can you send me the launcher logs? Go to the View menu, Reveal in Finder, Launcher logs and put all the files there in a Dropbox or Google Drive and send me a link in EVE mail.
It would also be helpful if you tried again, this time with LogLite running (start LogLite from the View menu). After it has crashed, go to LogLite, save the log and send me that file as well.
I can only improve the stability with your help - I need the details to figure out what went wrong.
Thank you for your effort!
